The chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)**, Buba Marwa, has warned personnel to shun corruption and abide by the agency’s code and ethics in carrying out their duties.

Mr Marwa warned during the graduation of members of the Strike Force elite corps on Saturday in Jos, Plateau State capital.

The NDLEA boss implored the graduating officers to hold on to the discipline inculcated during their training and shun actions that might jeopardise the discipline and service required for their roles.

Mr Marwa advised them against yielding to the temptations that may be brought by drug traffickers and barons.

“As an anti-narcotic officer, you bear a huge obligation to remain incorruptible in the face of any temptation that might be sprung on you by drug traffickers and barons,” the NDLEA boss told the officers.

He emphasised that the specialised training they had received would undeniably enhance their skill and competency in the roles they are set to fulfil in the Agency for the fight against illicit drugs.

Mr Marwa stressed that while the agency advances in its efforts against illicit drug trafficking, the officers’ service will be a crucial factor in the actualisation of the goal.

“We have great expectations of the Strike Force, one of NDLEA’s tactical creations in 2021,” said Mr Marwa. “The Strike Force adds strength and purpose to our drug supply reduction effort by reinforcing officers and men of NDLEA who have to work in dangerous terrain while carrying out their duties.”

The NDLEA recalled that the Strike Force, on two occasions in February 2023, executed raids, seizures, and destruction of a substantial amount of psychotropic substances in territories which were formerly violent and nearly off-limits for anti-narcotic officers.

He commended the efforts and commitment of the training facilitators and the NDLEA team of instructors for the success of the course.

Also, the commandant of the NDLEA Academy, Jos, Hamza Umar, praised the agency’s leadership for the continuous training of personnel.

Three hundred and ninety-one personnel of the Strike Force successfully graduated from the training, which lasted for a duration of about three weeks.
