The National Emergency Management Agency NEMA has warned residents of 19 communities around the Lagos-Ogun border of an imminent flooding due to release of water from the overfilled Oyan Dam.

An alert issued by the emergency response agency listed the communities at risk as: Ketu, Alapere, Agric, Owode Onirin, Ajegunle, Alagbole, Kara, Isheri Olowora, Araromi, Otun Orisha, Agiliti, Meiran, Maidan, Mile 12, Odo Ogun, Owode Elede, Agboyi I, Agboyi II, and Agboyi III.

Residents were warned to be on high alert or better still relocate some of their properties pending the release period so as to limit the damage that will ensue in the cause of the release.

Nigeria has witnessed devastating floods across the country owing to increased precipitation from rainfall and release of water from Lagdo Dam in Cameroon.

The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management on Tuesday warned that the flooding disaster which had already claimed over 600 lives with over 2.5 million people affected could become worse as seasonal rainfall predictions remain high.
