A non-governmental organisation, Foundation for Orphans and Less Privileged, has donated bags of rice and cash to 250 orphans in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara.

The foundation is a charity organisation established by a philanthropist, AbdulHafiz Umar-Barau to assist orphans and vulnerable persons.

Presenting the assistance to the beneficiaries in Tsafe on Tuesday, the Emir of Tsafe, Muhammad Bawa described the gesture as commendable.

“I am highly delighted to present this assistance to orphans on behalf of this foundation. We appreciate this gesture. This is a wonderful intervention in view of the current economic hardship in society.

“This donation is not only timely but a welcome development, because it will go a long way in helping our people especially those who are in need of urgent financial support,” he said.

According to him, the gesture will reduce the suffering of people, especially orphans and the less privileged.

The monarch appealed to well-meaning individuals in the society to emulate the good gesture to reach out to vulnerable families.

Earlier, an official of the foundation, Abdul Bala-Gusau said the gesture was aimed at providing succour to the beneficiaries to curb the current economic hardship.

He said, “A total of 250 male and female orphans were selected for the assistance. Each of the 250 beneficiaries received cash assistance of N5,000, while some received additional bags of rice. This is in addition to various categories of beneficiaries across the state who received assistance in cash, food items as well as health intervention from the foundation.’’

Mr Bala-Gusau said that the foundation also rendered financial assistance to 10 vulnerable households for reconstruction of their collapsed houses in Gusau local government area of the state.
