NGO empowers 48 women with different skills in Plateau
A non-governmental organisation, AIDS Prevention Initiative, has empowered 48 women with different skills to make them self-reliant.
APIN’s Technical Officer, Prevention and Community Services, Chidima Stevens, said that the women were trained in tailoring, baking, shoemaking, catering, and other skills.
Mrs Stevens said during an interview on Wednesday in Jos, Plateau State, that the training was conducted in the first quarter of 2024.
The technical officer stated that the trainees were given starter packs to set up their businesses after the programme.
She said that APIN Public Initiative was concerned about the plight of women and was empowering many of them with relevant skills to make them entrepreneurs.
“APIN is passionate about women’s empowerment and believes that training is a critical first step towards creating a more equitable society,’’ she said.
Mrs Stevens further said that APIN provided an enabling environment for women to showcase their grace and talents.
The technical officer solicited the partnership of stakeholders, including the Plateau State Government, to train and empower more women at various levels.
She called for collaboration and strong synergies between government agencies, NGOs, and individuals to train women for self-reliance.
Mrs Stevens, however, said that women should be empowered and given a voice that would encourage them to positively impact their communities.
