The non-governmental organisation, Wisdom for Women, has trained some secondary schoolgirls in different skills.

The skills are to enable them to become self- reliant after their education. The NGO’s Financial Secretary, Mojirade Adedokun, said in a statement on Saturday in Lagos that the training was for three days.

The NGO is an inter-denominational ministry committed to enhancing women’s well-being and strengthening family units.

Mrs Adedokun expressed the belief that the acquired skills would impact the girls’ families, the broader community, and the girls themselves, fostering financial independence in post-secondary school.

The official said the training, led by seasoned professionals passionate about their crafts, focused on teaching girls in the Mushin Local Government Areas of Lagos State on how to make pastries, essential household products and hats/fascinators.

She said: “Our mission at WOW is to empower women and girl children in areas such as business, career, family relationships and health while fostering a profound connection with God. The training is in line with our ongoing mission to equip young schoolgirls in Mushin Local Government Area; we are partnering with the Women Right and Health Project in a programme funded by Global Affairs Canada. The girls were also trained on baking, beverages, cereals and custard making, among others.

“The latest instalment of this programme was held at Marjos International College in Mushin LGA, where 80 girls engaged in a three-day skill acquisition workshop from November 15 to 17.

“The initiative is not just an investment in the participants but in society as a whole because I believe that the skills acquired will impact the girls’ families.’’

The Vice-Principal, Nene Anike, representing the school management, praised the programme as a thoughtful initiative.

Mrs Anike said the training was poised to empower young girls in Mushin, enabling them to become future employers and productive adults.

The participants received certificates of participation at the conclusion of the enlightening three-day workshop.
