A non-governmental organisation, Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society, aimed at fostering a corruption-free society has trained 200 youths from Sokoto and Kebbi states on digital skills.

Themed “Promoting digitally skilled youths for corrupt-free society,” the three-day training aimed to deter youths from engaging in fraudulent activities and encourage self-reliance.

Closing of the training on Sunday in Sokoto, the Chief Imam, Mallam Fu’ad Adeyemi, highlighted the objective that centred on the theme.

Mr Adeyemi, represented by Hajiya Rakiya Momoh-Abaji, emphasised the importance of steering young minds away from illicit practices and fostering a positive digital footprint.

Chief Imam said, “Our goal is to guide our young generation towards a brighter future, steering them away from the path of fraudsters who misuse technology for nefarious purposes. This training aims to instil positive attitudes to our younger generations towards modern technology.’’

The Chairman of the occasion, Dr Muhammad Gulam, praised the programme, highlighting its role in equipping the youths with essential digital skills to enhance both their businesses, religious pursuits and contribute positively to society.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Greenlight Youth Support Initiative, Alhaji Nura Attajiri, described the programme as a strategic approach to addressing youth restiveness in Nigeria.

He noted that instilling patriotism through such training could help combat issues like kidnapping and banditry, which are often seen as manifestations of corruption.

Responding on behalf of other participants, Mr Ladan Fakai and Ms Aishat Abdulrahim, expressed gratitude to the organisers, describing the opportunity as a significant step forwards in enhancing their business skills.
