The chairman of the Palliatives Distribution Committee in Limawa Ward B, Chanchaga Local Government Area of Niger, Mikail-Al-Amin Bmitosahi, has promised that the committee will be fair and transparent in the distribution process.

Mr Bmitosahi made the promise during the presentation of the items to the committee in Minna on Sunday.

He said only fairness and transparency in the process would fulfil the purpose of the government’s gesture and positively impact the masses.

“Anything other than that gives room for people to lose confidence in us, and since it was a collective agreement, we will ensure that the process is transparent,” he said.

Mr Bmitosahi said N18.7 million was spent to purchase 195 bags of rice at N9 million, 50 bags of beans at N3 million, 100 bags of Garri at N4.7 million and 196 cartons of spaghetti at N2 million.

He said the balance was used for packaging the items, logistics, and transportation.

He further said the ward was divided into three zones, adding that 33.5 per cent of the items were allocated to Zone A, 33.0 per cent to Zone B and 33.5 per cent to Zone C.

Mr Bmitosahi gave assurance that the stakeholders would monitor the process to ensure that it was transparent.

He said the committee would invoke necessary actions against anyone found to be violating their agreement.

Governor Umaru Bago, on September 1, approved N5 billion for the purchase of palliatives for distribution across the state.

Each ward in Suleja, Chanchaga, Bida and Kontagora was allocated N20 million, while wards in the remaining 21 local governments got N10 million each.
