The Tactical Air Command (TAC) of the Nigerian Air Force, Makurdi, on Friday, held a medical outreach to offer free medical services to its retired personnel in the capital city and its environs.

The event was part of the command’s activities to commemorate this year’s Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.

In a speech, the Air Force Commanding, TAC, AVM Francis Edosa, said the exercise, which was designed for NAF veterans in the area, was in recognition of their sacrifice in achieving a peaceful and united country.

Mr Edosa, represented by the command’s administration officer, Air Commodore Adebanjo Adesua, said the responsibility of providing affordable healthcare in the country was huge and called on all hands to be on deck to achieve the task.

He said that the outreach was an avenue to show the veterans how important they are to the armed forces.

He commended the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, for his “extraordinary support” to the command in achieving its objectives.

Also, the Commander, 161 Nigeria Air Force Hospital, Grp. Cpt. Ifeanyi Ifeorah, thanked the CAS for the programme, saying that it would help to improve the wellbeing of the veterans.

“The medical outreach will contribute in no small measure to the health of our veterans,” Mr Ifeorah said.

He listed the services provided at the programme to include ultrasound scan, sugar test and HIV screening.

Others were dental checks, free eye examination, distribution of eyeglasses, immunisation against tetanus and deworming against intestinal helminths.

He urged the veterans to avail themselves of the free medical services to keep fit.
