Nigeria professional women’s football league postponed
The 2022/2023 season of the Nigerian Women’s Football League (NWFL) has been postponed by a month.
Earlier billed to kick off on September 14, the league was moved to October 12 by shareholders to enable some players participate in national and continental engagements.
A letter addressed to NWFL clubs by the league management cited the involvement of Bayelsa Queens at the ongoing WAFU Zone B’ CAF Women Champions League Qualifiers in Côte d’Ivoire and ten other teams in the upcoming Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament as reason for the postponement.
The Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament is scheduled to be held between September 7-17, 2022.
“In view of the above, we are constrained to inform you that the 2022/2023 NWFL Premiership season earlier scheduled to commence on 14 September 2022 has been postponed to 12th October 2022,” a part of the letter read.
