Nigeria to experience cloudiness with intermittent sunshine 

NiMet anticipated cloudy skies on Friday with intervals of sunshine over the northern region.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted cloudy and sunny weather conditions from Thursday to Saturday.

NiMet’s weather outlook released on Wednesday in Abuja predicted cloudy skies on Thursday with intervals of sunshine over the northern region in the morning hours with the prospects of thunderstorms over Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara.

According to it, thunderstorms are expected over most places in the region later in the day.

“The North-Central region is expected to be cloudy with chances of rains over parts of Kwara and Niger during the morning hours.

“Thunderstorms are expected across the North central region in the afternoon/evening hours.

“Cloudy atmosphere is anticipated over the inland cities of the South while rains are anticipated across the coastal cities including Lagos, Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta and Akwa Ibom during the morning hours,” it said.

It forecast isolated thunderstorms over Ebonyi, Ogun, Enugu, Oyo, Ondo, Anambra, Edo, Abia, Imo and the entire coastal cities.

NiMet anticipated cloudy skies on Friday with intervals of sunshine over the northern region with chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Adamawa, Bauchi, Taraba, Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi, Zamfara, Sokoto and Borno  later in the day.

It envisaged the North-Central region to be cloudy with chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Niger, Kogi, the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau and Nasarawa in the afternoon.

“Cloudy atmosphere is anticipated with prospects of rains over Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Ekiti and the entire coastal cities in the morning hours.

“Isolated thunderstorms are expected over parts of Ebonyi, Enugu, Abia, Anambra, Imo, Edo, Ogun and Ondo  while moderate rains are expected over most parts of the coastal region during the afternoon and evening hours.”

According to NiMet, cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are anticipated over the northern region on Saturday with prospects of isolated thunderstorms over Borno, Adamawa and Taraba  in the morning hours.

It forecast thunderstorms over parts of Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kebbi and Zamfara later in the day.

“Cloudy atmosphere is anticipated over the North central region during the morning hours. Isolated thunderstorms are expected over parts of the FCT, Plateau, Niger, Kwara, Nasarawa and Benue during afternoon and evening hours.

“The Inland cities and the coastal cities of the South are expected to be cloudy in the morning hours.

“During the afternoon/evening hours, isolated thunderstorms are expected over parts of Oyo, Ebonyi, Imo, Ondo, Edo and Ogun  and light rains are expected over most places in the coastal region,” it said.

According to the agency, to reduce incidences of erosion and overflow of water beyond its normal limit, gutters and waterways should be cleared of debris and obstacles to ensure free flow of water.

It predicted good prospects of intermittent rains over the central states within the period of validity of the forecast , adding that such flash floods were likely to affect some parts of the region.

“The public is advised to take adequate precautions. Airline operators are advised to get updated weather reports from NiMet for effective planning in their operations,” it added.
