The Nigerian embassy in Russia has announced the suspension of the production of passports for Nigerians.

The embassy said it stopped the passport production to perform some maintenance work on the equipment used to produce the passports.

According to a memo dated April 1, 2022, seen by Peoples Gazette, the maintenance work will last until April 24 before the embassy resumes production of the Nigerian passports.

“This is to inform of the temporary suspension of passport production at the Immigration Section of the Embassy between 4th – 24th April 2022, due to routine maintenance of the production equipment,” the statement said.

In an announcement on the embassy’s website signed by an immigration attache, the Nigerian Embassy stated that passport production would resume from April 29.

In March, a report by the Nigerian consulate general in New York revealed outstanding passport requests dating back to 2018.

The report showed that passports were unavailable to Nigerian s in Chicago, Minnesota and Indianapolis between 2018 and 2019.
