Dele Alake, a spokesperson for President Bola Tinubu, has reiterated that Nigerians are satisfied with Mr Tinubu’s leadership in the past month of his administration.

“In just one month in office, Nigerians appear satisfied with the decisive leadership of President Tinubu and the manner he is redirecting the country to the path of fiscal sustainability and socio-economic reforms,” Mr Alake said in a statement on Sunday night.

He dismissed the European Union report that the February 25 general election that brought Mr Tinubu to the office was unfree, unfair and fraught with violence that saw 74 persons killed.

“We urge the EU and other foreign interests to be objective in all their assessments of the internal affairs of our country and allow Nigeria to breathe,” he said.

However, contrary to Mr Alake’s claim, Mr Tinubu has come under intense criticism as Boko Haram terrorists and bandits continue killing sprees across the country.

A summation of reported killings under Mr Tinubu’s watch in his first month in office by Peoples Gazette shows that at least 237 persons were killed across the country.

Nigerians have also berated Mr Tinubu for asking citizens to sacrifice to save the country from collapse.

Mr Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, announcing the immediate removal of the fuel subsidy. As a result, the petrol pump price skyrocketed to N540 from N195.

However, the president did not mention plans to cushion his decision’s adverse effects on the masses, a decision the World Bank said could push more Nigerians into poverty.

Despite the economic conundrum Nigerians face, Mr Tinubu also ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria to float the naira, a decision that resulted in the national currency’s value heading further south at the official forex market, allowing banks to determine exchange rates to the dollar and other foreign currencies.
