No better aspirant than ‘incorruptible’ Yahaya Bello: Hafsat Abiola-Costello

Ms Abiola-Costello said that even the World Bank had certified Mr Bello’s transparency in finances.

The director-general of Yahaya Bello’s campaign group, Hafsat Abiola-Costello, says no candidate is better positioned for the 2023 presidency than the Kogi State governor.

Ms Abiola-Costello, who is also the daughter of the acclaimed winner of the 1993 presidential election, late MKO Abiola, told journalists on Tuesday that the governor demonstrated transparency, credibility and accountability as governor of Kogi.

“First the governor is an accountant, and he actually is one of the few state governors in Nigeria that the World Bank has certified his transparency in finances. I do not know any other state that the World Bank has given his ranking,” she said.

She rolled out reasons Mr Bello remained Nigeria’s best bet in the forth-coming 2023 presidential election.

She explained that 30 years after June 12, Mr Bello was in the presidential race to restore the truncated hope of Nigerians, especially that of the youth, women and the vulnerable.

Ms Abiola-Costello said that the aspirant had signalled to the youth that “Nigeria is for them, that they are the ones that should be in charge and young people and women in Nigeria are ready to lead.”

She added that the aspirant was someone that did not like to take loans as he had been carefully managing the resources of the state by the IGR of the state he built.

Meanwhile, EFCC had said it discovered N19.3 billion belonging to the Kogi State government in a fixed deposit account with Sterling Bank.

The funds in the account 00******96 with the name Kogi State Salary Bail Out Account were meant for the payment of salaries in the state and were allegedly not used for its purpose.

Mr Bello repeatedly denied this, claiming his administration did not open any account of such, but corporate documents seen by Peoples Gazette showed that Mr Bello’s administration opened the account in 2019.
