The Nigeria Olympic Committee has congratulated the president, the Nigeria Basketball Federation, and the players of the D’Tigress on their exceptional performance and qualification for the 2024 Paris Games.

The NOC Public Relations Officer, Tony Nezianya, conveyed the commendation in a statement on Saturday.

According to him, the players’ dedication, hard work, and passion for the game have been truly inspiring to witness.

The NOC said, “You have showcased unparalleled skills, teamwork, and resilience throughout the tournament, earning this well-deserved victory. Your commitment to representing Nigeria with pride and executing each game with precision has made our nation proud.’’

Mr Nezianya said that each player displayed outstanding athleticism, talent, and sportsmanship, exemplifying the true spirit of basketball.

The public relations officer also said that the team had proven that with determination and perseverance, no challenge was too great to overcome.

He stated, “We will also like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to President NBBF, Musa Kida, for his unwavering support and encouragement to the team. Your leadership and belief in their abilities have undoubtedly played a crucial role in their success.”

Mr Nezianya said that the victory was a testament to the team’s collective efforts, unity, and unwavering belief in themselves.

He added that the D’Tigress had not only made their families proud but the entire nation as well.

“Your triumphs on the court have united us all and given us a reason to celebrate. As you bask in the glory of this victory, know that your achievements have inspired a generation of young athletes and fans alike.

“May this triumph be a stepping stone towards even greater success in future tournaments. Once again, congratulations to the president and players of the D’Tigresses. You have made history and left an indelible mark on the world of basketball.

“Your passion, dedication, and talent have brought immense pride to Nigeria. Continue to soar, and may your journey be filled with many more victories,” he stated.

Also, a former NBA star, player, and member of the NBBF, Olumide Oyedeji, said that Nigeria’s victory was propelled by the national team’s defeat of Senegal in the group qualifying match held in Belgium.

According to him, the group comprised the U.S., Belgium, and Senegal.

The Vice President of NBBF, Babs Ogunade, also assured the team that it would do all within its power to have a strong showing at the Olympic Games in Paris.

D’Tigresses had booked a place after Belgium defeated Senegal on Friday at the ongoing 2024 Olympics qualification tournament in Belgium.

D’Tigress had earlier lost to the US 100-46 in their second game at the competition, but favourable results in the other group matches qualified the team for the Paris showdown.
