NUGA 2022: UNIPORT in early lead on medals table

UNIPORT has already won 14 gold, six silver and nine bronze medals to earn a haul of 29 medals.

Defending champions of the Nigeria University Games (NUGA), University of Port Harcourt, is asserting its dominance in the ongoing NUGA games.

Already, the school is leading on the medals table as the game reaches Day 4.

The 26th edition of the games has 78 public and private universities competing for honours.

Team UNIPORT has already won 14 gold, six silver and nine bronze medals to earn a haul of 29 medals mostly from individual sports such as Swimming and Judo.

The host, UNILAG, is second with 19 medals – six gold, seven silver and six bronze – while a surprise entrant into the top three, Nile University, Abuja is in third position with three gold, two silver and two bronze medals.

Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt is fourth with three gold, and two silver, University of Ilorin with two gold and five silver is fifth, while Benson Idahosa University sits sixth with two gold, one silver and two bronze.

Others in the top 10 are Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta in seventh place with two gold, one silver and two bronze and Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife eight with one gold, five silver and five bronze.

Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria occupies the ninth position with one gold, one silver and two bronze, while Federal University of Technology, Akure occupies the 10th position with one gold, one silver and one bronze.
