The Kaduna branch of National Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has donated N3.5 million and clothing materials to 360 drivers and widows.

Aliyu Tanimu-Zaria, the Kaduna chairman of NURTW, disclosed this while distributing materials and cash at the union’s office on Thursday.

He said the gesture was to support the drivers and their families battling economic hardship.

Mr Tanimu-Zaria, who doubles as the zonal (North-West) national vice-president of the union, said the initiative was part of its routine humanitarian gestures to ease the current economic hardship for its members.

Also speaking, Alhassan Haruna, the national coordinator of heavy trucks of NURTW in Kaduna, said indigent drivers and widows were more deserving of the gesture.

Some drivers spoke in separate interviews and commended the union for the donations.
