Octogenarian, two others arraigned over alleged threat to prophetess’ life

Three men, Kabiru Adeyemi, 47, Rafiu Odeyale, 80 and Ganiyu Ayinde, 61 were on Monday arraigned in a Grade ‘A’ Customary Court, Iyaganku, Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly threatening the life of a prophetess.

The three men, whose addresses were not provided, were charged with conspiracy, threat to life, forcible entry of land and malicious damage.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecutor, Philip Amusan, told the court that the defendants allegedly committed the offences on March 1, around Akanran area, Ibadan.

Mr Amusan alleged that the defendants threatened the life of one prophetess, Funmilayo Omigbire, and forcibly entered her land at Akanran.

The prosecutor said the defendants allegedly damaged 40 erected corner pieces and four signposts worth N1 million, belonging to the prophetess.

He said the offences contravened Sections 516, 86 and 451 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Court President, Moji Aworemi, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

She adjourned the case until May 20 for hearing.
