Ogun man jailed for inflicting machete cut on neighbour

An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court, on Monday, sentenced a  21-year-old man Michael Fadipe to five years imprisonment for inflicting a machete cut on one Tobi Akinyemi.

The Magistrate, S. S. Shotayo said that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.

Mr Shotayo said that Mr Fadipe was guilty as charged and sentenced him to five years imprisonment with hard labour and without option of fine.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Wale Diyaolu, told the court that the convict committed the offence on October 10, 2021, about 8:30 p.m. at Oke-Ibatumu Ijoun in Ayetoro area of Ogun.

Mr Diyaolu said that the convict conspired with others now at large to assault one Tobi Akinyemi by using a machete to inflict a cut on the complainant’s left hand.

He said the complainant went for a naming ceremony at Ayewa Club in Ijoun, when Mr Fadipe started tormenting trouble.

The prosecutor said the complainant pleaded with the convict to stop fomenting trouble at the ceremony.

Mr Diyaolu said when Mr Akinyemi got home, the convict, in company of some boys stormed Mr Akinyemi’s home and beat him with sticks and also used a machete to inflict a cut on his hand.

The prosecutor said Akinyemi was taken to hospital for treatment, while the convict and others escaped.

He noted that the offences contravened Sections 516and 355 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

Mr Fadipe, who resides at ljoun Ayetoro area of Ogun, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and assault.
