The Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS) on Wednesday in Akure apprehended over 35 motorists without valid vehicle particulars and driver’s licences.

Briefing journalists in Akure, the licensing officer at ODIRS, Olajide Samuel, said the exercise was to ensure compliance with traffic laws.

Mr Samuel said the exercise aligned with the state government’s directive to ensure the safety of lives and property on the road.

“The traffic law is so clear that any vehicle that would ply government roads must be duly registered and with valid documents.

“Today, we see some vehicles using old number plates, like some commercial vehicles which use local government numbers, and we see some unregistered vehicles on the road.

“Also, we have so many old number plates on the road and vehicles with expired documents, while some do not have a driver’s licence,” he said.

Mr Samuel appealed to road users in the state to adhere to traffic laws, adding that the state government frowned at motorists using foreign number plates.

He advised vehicle owners with foreign number plates to either immediately register such vehicles or desist from driving them on the roads.

The licensing officer also said that vehicle owners with expired documents should go and validate their documents.

The exercise was carried out in collaboration with the personnel of the police, Vehicle Inspection Officers, Federal Road Safety Corps and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
