The United Nations says more than 1,000 dead bodies of civilians have been recovered in the suburbs of war-torn Ukraine.

The bodies were recovered in northern part of Ukraine’s capital Kyiv. The location is occupied by Russian forces.

Michelle Bachelet, the United Nations human rights chief, on Thursday in a special session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, stated that bodies found consist of those who were executed and those who were shot dead by snipers.

The chief while delivering her speech stated that the “figures will continue to increase”, highlighting the brute force deployed by the Russian troops to capture Ukrainian cities.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24 in what it termed “special military operation.” The war has claimed huge casualties on both sides, especially Ukrainian civilians.

Kremlin’s aggression was kindled by Ukraine’s decision to join regional military alliance NATO, which according to Mr Putin threatens his country’s sovereignty.
