The Osun House of Assembly on Tuesday confirmed the appointments of retired AIG Wale Abbas as chairman and Adekunle Omoyele as commander of the Amotekun Corps in the state.

The state governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Monday forwarded the names of the two appointees to the state assembly for screening and confirmation.

While reading the letter during plenary session, Osun Assembly Speaker, Adewale Egbedun, quoted the governor as stating that the move was to strengthen the state’s security apparatus.

The assembly, after asking the appointees to submit copies of their curriculum vitae and other relevant documents on Monday, screened them on Tuesday and thereafter confirmed their appointments.

Mr Egbedun, after the confirmation, congratulated the new appointees and urged them to leverage their wealth of experience to enhance security across the state.

He equally admonished them to foster strong working relationships with other security agencies with the goal of making Osun State a safer place.

In his remarks, the new Amotekun Board Chairman, Mr Abbas pledged to work closely with stakeholders in the state to combat crime and ensure the security of lives and property.

Recall that Mr Adeleke, through the Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, had in a letter dated July 3 appointed retired AIG Abass as Amotekun Chairman.

The governor also appointed retired CSP Isaac Omoyele as the Amotekun Corps Commander while the appointment of retired Capt. Benedict Akanni as Osun Amotekun Field Commander subsists.

Brig.-Gen. Isah Aderibigbe (retd) and retired Brig.-Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi, the pioneer Chairman and Commander respectively of Amotekun Corps in Osun were replaced by Mr Adeleke after serving out their four years term.
