Speaker of the Osun House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, has implored Christians to show love and be compassionate with the less privileged in the spirit of Christmas.

Mr Egbedun said this in a statement issued by his media aide, Olamide Tiamiyu, on Sunday in Osogbo.

He congratulated the Christian faithful on this year’s Christmas, saying that the festival was firmly rooted in Christian faith, as it marks the birth of Jesus Christ.

The speaker also urged Christians to use the occasion to extend hands of love and brotherliness to people around them, in line with the spirit of Christmas.

“I extend my warmest greetings to the peace-loving people of Osun state in this season of celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.

“It is a time for us to show gratitude to God for His numerous blessings, especially through the Lord Jesus, to redeem the world from everlasting ruins,” said the speaker of the Osun parliament.

Mr Egbedun added, “It is indeed a time to demonstrate utmost humility, enduring kindness and heart of sacrifice, especially toward the less privileged in our society. The birth of Christ is the greatest gift of love for mankind.

“Let us emulate the examples of Christ and be compassionate to one another, regardless of the current circumstances in our nation.”

According to Mr Egbedun, a little act of kindness can make a big difference at this time.

“Christmas season provides Christians the ample opportunity to show the Christ-like meekness in them,” the speaker noted.

Mr Egbedun appealed to Christian clerics and faithful to use the period to pray for Governor Ademola Adeleke for the attainment of his “noble objectives” for Osun.
