Jacob Asiyanbi said the Prison Transformation and Conflict Resolution International Foundation (PRITACOR) settled over 4,000 cases of domestic violence from 2018 to date.

PRITACOR was established in October 2018 to help prisoners and ex-convicts regain their place in society.

Mr Asiyanbi, PRITACOR’s founder, stated this in an interview on Wednesday in his office in Modakeke, Osun.

He explained that the majority of the cases handled and settled by the foundation were those involved in domestic violence and “those unjustly sent to prison.”

“We are also fighting for and protecting the rights of people who don’t have anybody to fight for them while in the detention facilities. We have two that we have paid for their fine, while 23 who were wrongly accused have been released from the court.

“Majority of them were married before going to prison, and they had their own job before committing the offence. But those that didn’t have any job, we empower them, while those that have good family go back to them,” he explained.

He said there was hope for the future, urging the public to know their rights and claim them legally.

“That’s why we sensitise people on the radio programme so that the generality will know the basic knowledge of the law and their constitutional rights.

“We also empower people not to take laws into their hands, and we have covered like six states,” he said.
