The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed over three tons of cannabis (Indian Hemp) in zero forest.

A statement by the NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said the substances were on 1.577683 hectares of farmland.

Mr Babafemi said operatives raided the Oloma-Okpe forest in Akoko Edo Local Government Area (LGA) and destroyed 3,944.2075 kgs of cannabis on the farmland.

Also, NDLEA operatives in Edo State on Thursday, March 14, arrested a suspect, Kole Samuel, aged 50.

Mr Babafemi said that the suspect was arrested with 75kg of psychoactive substances at the market area in Otuo, Owan East Local Government Area (LGA).

In the same vein, at least 24kg of cannabis was seized from the driver of a transport company, Ikechukwu Obialo, at Sagamu Interchange, Ogun State, by NDLEA operatives on March 13.

Mr Babafemi said two suspects, Ali Amadu, 27, and Adamu Hassan, 33, were caught with 125.3kg of cannabis, 3,400 pills of tramadol, and 30 bottles of codeine syrup in Kano State.

“They were arrested on Monday,  March 11, at Gadar Tamburawa area, and Friday, March 15, at Tsamiya Babba, Hotoro, respectively.

“One hundred and eighteen kilogrammes of cannabis were recovered from a warehouse in the Masaka area of Nasarawa State on Saturday, March 16,” he said.

Meanwhile, all the various commands of the agency across the country continued the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign in the past week.

Mr Babafemi quoted the NDLEA chairman, retired Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa, as applauding the officers and men in all the commands for intensifying their WADA advocacy lectures.
