The Oyo State Government has begun demolishing some illegal structures at Omololu Olunloyo GRA at Ring Road in Ibadan.

The permanent secretary of the Ministry of Land, Housing and Urban Development, Mofoluke Adebiyi, led the demolition team to the area.

Ms Adebiyi said the demolition was due to the illegal acquisition of land, unlawful entry into the GRA and non-compliance with physical planning rules and regulations by the property’s owners.

She said the exercise was extended to Aquatech College of Agriculture and Technology in the same area, accusing the college’s owner of leasing government land without approval.

“The exercise is to help restore sanity into land use management, urban and physical planning and development in Oyo state,” Ms Adebiyi said.

The permanent secretary said several notices were served on the occupants by the Bureau of Physical Planning over the years, but those concerned failed to do the needful.

She explained that the plots of land in question were acquired by the government of the Western Region for the construction of Adeoyo Hospital Ring Road, among other purposes.

”The original owners of the land were duly compensated during the period,” she added.

Ms Adebiyi then urged those claiming to have approvals on the plots they acquired to come forward to the ministry for verification.
