Some officials of the Oyo State government have been arrested and currently standing trial for cases of fraud, said the Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA).

OYACA chairperson, Eni Esan, on Friday in Ibadan disclosed that the officials were from the state’s Ministry of Lands.

Ms Esan said the agency investigated the officials (names withheld) for allegedly diverting the government’s funds to personal accounts.

She said the agency, upon completing the investigation, handed over the affected workers to the state Ministry of Justice, adding that they were currently standing trial in court.

The chairperson added that the agency also recovered some money paid to some staff of Lagelu Local Government for illegal sale of government land.

Ms Esan said the money had been recovered from them and returned to the owner, Samson Olasunkanmi, who unknowingly bought the illegal land.

Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration established the agency with the mandate to investigate cases of corruption and mismanagement of public funds, among others.

The agency lacks the power to prosecute but can hand over any case investigated to the Ministry of Justice for prosecution.
