The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has directed state chairs to submit their reports on investigations into alleged anti-party activities by some members in the 2023 general election.

The party’s national organising secretary, Umar Bature, stated this on Tuesday during the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) meeting with the state chairmen in Abuja.

Mr Bature directed the state chairmen to write their reports so the party leadership could take appropriate action.

“A lot of agitation is coming from party members. Suspend this, suspend that. You are the ones in charge of those states.

“You are to tell us who engaged in anti-party activities and who did not. Based on that, the National Executive Committee (NEC) will take a decision. Write to us and tell us what transpired, no matter what happened,” said Mr Bature.

He also asked the Cross River acting chairman to update the party’s leadership on what activities in the state.

“We really need to know what is happening,” he added.

Mr Bature said that after the 2023 general election, the NWC expected the state chapters to submit their post-election results.

He said that many states have yet to submit their reports. He recalled that most current state executives were elected four years ago.

“We have about four or five states where the tenures of the executive have expired from the ward to the state, that is, Edo, Bayelsa, Gombe and Rivers; there are others that are staggered.

“We called the meeting to discuss this so as not to create a vacuum. We also have vacancies due to deaths and resignations,” Mr Bature said.

Speaking after the meeting, the PDP chairman in Kaduna State, Felix Hyet, said resolutions were taken for the state chapters to work together with all stakeholders to ensure the party’s victory in 2027.

Mr Hyet said that state chairs resolved to support the Edo and Ondo chapters of the party for victory in the forcing governorship elections in the states.

The NWC later had a closed-door meeting with party stakeholders from Ondo.
