PDP Elders’ Council okays performance of Anambra party exco

The Elders Council of the Peoples Democratic Party in Anambra State said the party in the state is peaceful, intact and in safe hands.
The elders said nothing justified the call for the dissolution of the exco led by Chidi Chidebe in Anambra State, stating that members were comfortable with the state, local government and ward executives doing well.
This is contained in a communique issued after an extensive meeting held at the residence of Senator Ben Ndi-Obi, the leader of PDP in Anambra State in Awka on Friday.
The communique, signed by Chief Felix Oli and Dr Odili Ojukwu, chairman and secretary respectively of the council, said the current Anambra State PDP executive was performing well and stakeholders were being actively engaged.
The council said the sudden propagation of falsehoods against the duly constituted state executive committee was both regrettable and concerning, calling on the National Working Committee and The PDP Governors’ Forum to ignore the call.
It said recognising such a move would destabilise the legitimate structure of PDP in Anambra State, weaken internal cohesion and cast doubts over its credibility in the forthcoming governorship elections in the state and the national convention.
The Elders Council said there was no legal action pending against the Anambra State executive committee, adding that any rumour suggesting otherwise was false.
The council urged the NWC to be cautious and discerning towards purveyors of such misleading information.
It stated, “The Anambra State PDP Elders Council firmly states that any attempt to disrupt or dissolve the legitimately elected Executive Committee would be a direct invitation to instability and unrest in the state. The NWC must resist any influence that seeks to create unnecessary conflict. We have made progress, and there is no justification for regression. No injustice has been meted out to any member, and the Executive maintains a strong working relationship with the NWC. One of the most significant achievements of the current NWC remains the free and fair congress conducted in Anambra, having accomplished this milestone, the NWC must not allow itself to be manipulated into undermining its own success.’’
The PDP Elders Council appreciated the efforts of the NEC, National Working Committee, Governors’ Forum, Board of Trustees, and the National Caucus to stabilise the party.
It recommended that the NWC should convene a meeting of major stakeholders of the PDP in Anambra State in the state to accurately monitor the prevailing sentiment and mood of the party.
The council said, “We extend our sincere gratitude to the NWC led by Amb. Iliya Damagun, for their steadfast support during our challenging period. From setting up a caretaker committee to conducting the most transparent and successful state congress in the history of Anambra State PDP, and ensuring the inauguration of duly elected officials, the NWC has been commendable.’’
