PDP should report attempt on Jandor’s life before we act: Police

The Lagos opposition gubernatorial candidate was allegedly attacked on Sunday.

• October 24, 2022

The police in Lagos on Monday said the Peoples Democratic Party has yet to file a complaint about an alleged attack on Olajide ‘Jandor’ Adediran that happened in Badagry on Sunday.

Police spokesman in Lagos Benjamin Hundeyin said on Monday that an official message has been sent to “people that made the allegations” to report the attack to a police station but they are to file a report.

Mr Hundeyin said PDP representatives must give out evidence for the police to conduct an investigation, adding that police officers have visited the scene.

“We have reached out to the people that made the allegations to reach out to the nearest police station, they have not reported,” he said.

“Give us facts and details of what happened to aid our investigation not much was gathered from the scene. We expect them to lodge a complaint, so that they can provide more details that will help our investigation that we have commenced already,” Mr Hundeyin added.

Hakeem Amode, a PDP spokesman, had alleged that the All Progressives Congress sponsored thugs attacked the campaign convoy of the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the Badagry area of Lagos on Sunday.

“The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. while they were returning from a visitation to members of the party at the Ikoga Junction area of Badagry Local Government by APC-sponsored thugs,” Mr Ambode said.

“Several members of the entourage of JANDOR and pressmen were attacked and as at the time of this press statement, one of the journalists was in critical condition in an undisclosed hospital,  while others are being treated

“You will recall that our party raised concern over the threat to use sponsored thugs to attack the campaign programs of our Gubernatorial candidate Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran-JANDOR  recently.

“We would like to state categorically that this will not deter the determination of our candidate to campaign for the next election and win the election come March 11, 2023,” he said.

While reacting to the allegations of sponsored thugs from APC on Monday, Seye Oladejo, APC’s spokesperson in Lagos said this was just a “propaganda” from PDP candidate to seek the public sympathy through “blatant lies” and “unsubstantiated claims”

Mr Oladejo added, “The opposition party before now had more credible and accomplished candidates who flew their flags during elections and ran a good race. It is worthy of note that neither were they so desperate nor unnecessarily heat up the polity with needless lies.

“One cannot but wonder what led to the descent to the lowest abyss. Nigerians know too well that this is the  season  of endless comedy of the absurd coming from the stable of the professionals.”
