The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association (PENGASSAN) says it is working towards ending casualisation of workers in the industry.

PENGASSAN President Festus Osifo made this known during a media meeting with journalists in Lagos.

“We will have an interactive session and come up with an implementable communique with an action plan on how we will address the issue of casualisation in the future,” Mr Osifo said.

The labour leader stated that the first step in combating casualisation in the industry would be to unionise the workers, which would make the task of advocating for such workers easier to manage.

“One of the major things we are doing today is ensuring that every worker in Nigeria’s oil and gas industries is unionised,” he continued, “because we also recognise that contract workers are better off when they are covered by PENGASSAN and NUPENG.”

Mr Osifo noted that the union was planning a workshop in commemoration of the 2022 International Workers Day on May 1.

“For us, we’re talking with the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers about holding a workshop where we’ll bring all the stakeholders together,” Mr Festus said.
