The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has condemned the recent violent attacks and abductions in Benue and Zamfara states.

Mr Obi conveyed his message via a tweet on Sunday, calling on the government to take extraordinary measures to curb the menace.

He stated, “I am deeply saddened by reports of the visceral violence and gruesome killing of the internally displaced people (IDPs) in Benue state and other parts of Benue, and the kidnapping of dozens of people in Wanzamai village in Zamfara. Such bloodletting is unconscionable and stands condemned.

“Government and all stakeholders must take extraordinary measures to address this menace that is impacting negatively on our existence as a nation,” he said.

The Labour Party flag bearer also expressed his “deepest condolences to the families and friends of all those affected.”

No fewer than 38 people were killed and 51 persons injured when killer herdsmen attacked an Internally Displaced Persons camp in Nyiev Ward, Guma Local Government Area of Benue state.
