Frontline presidential contender Peter Obi has arrived at the British prime minister’s residence for talks, he said on Monday.

It was not immediately clear why Mr Obi of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party is visiting London to meet with top British officials. It was also unclear whether or not Prime Minister Boris Johnson will take part in the meeting. What Mr Obi plans to discuss with British officials was also not mentioned.

Mr Obi disclosed his arrival at Downing Street on Monday morning, days before he is expected to slug it out with other presidential aspirants at the convention of the main opposition party in Abuja.

The former Anambra governor’s profile has soared in recent weeks as calls grow for his choice as the PDP’s flagbearer for next February’s election.
