Plateau govt vows to revitalise primary healthcare centres for better service delivery
Plateau Commissioner for Health Cletus Shurkuk says the government is committed to revitalising primary healthcare centres (PHCs) to ensure quality and affordable services for the people.
Mr Shurkuk said this on Monday in Jos during a briefing to commemorate 2024 World Health Day (WHD), which has the theme “My Health, My Right.”
World Health Day is annually marked on April 7 to draw attention to a specific health topic.
The commissioner said the government had been working towards strengthening PHCs to boost healthcare delivery.
He added, “The right to health is universal, and the state government will continue to strengthen health governance and combat various forms of discrimination and inequalities in the health system.”
According to him, the government at all levels will continue to invest in improving healthcare services and infrastructure to ensure the highest attainable standard of health.
He called on people to take proactive steps to safeguard their health and seek timely medical attention when necessary rather than wait until a situation deteriorated.
Musa Mahdi, the Plateau coordinator of the World Health Organisation (WHO), commended the state’s Ministry of Health for aligning its programmes with global best practices.
A sensitisation walk was held to commemorate the day and to create awareness about the global observance.
