Former Senate President David Mark has urged President Bola Tinubu to review the security architecture to make it more proactive and strategic towards addressing the challenges.

Mr Mark stressed this in a statement issued by his spokesman, Paul Mumeh, on Tuesday.

Mr Mark said a review would identify the loopholes and devise a means to end the blood-shedding.

He said the Plateau killings, in which scores of citizens were massacred, should be a wake-up call that the security challenge needs urgent attention.

“It will not be out of place to declare an emergency on security. Any step taken to end the continued killing of citizens will be worth the trouble,” the former Senate president said.

Mr Mark urged the federal government and security agencies to do more, saying that life has become so cheap in Nigeria today as if people have lost humanity in them.

Mr Mark implored the government to collaborate with subnational governments to ensure peace and security.

He commiserated with the government and people of Plateau just as he suggested that residents should be on alert and cooperate with security operatives to prevent reoccurrence.

The politician called for harmonious relationships among various ethnic and religious adherences in the country.

Mr Mark advised against taking grievances to the extreme, pointing out that “there are legitimate channels to address grievances instead of resorting to self-help.”
