The speaker of the Plateau House of Assembly, Gabriel Dewan, has inaugurated nine out of the 16 members who won their cases at the Appeal Court.

Mr Dewan, at a brief ceremony on Friday in Jos, explained that the nine members met the criteria to be sworn in while the other seven did not.

The speaker also stated that the House of Assembly had been intact and that there was no crisis, as was being wrongly portrayed in the media.

He stated that the inauguration was delayed because the house was following due process in order not to flout any law or lay down rules.

“Yesterday I was informed that nine of the 16 members met the criteria to be sworn in and today I swore them in.

“Everything has been going smoothly in the assembly.

“We have extended the tenure of the Transition Implementation Committee in the local government areas as requested by the executive.

“This is to give the executive time to prepare for the election of substantive local government executives,” he said.

Those sworn in include Dickson Chollom-Barkin Ladi, Abdul Adamu-Mangu North, Daniel Nanbol-Langtang North Central and Denti Laven-Pankshin South.

Others were: Abel Nansak, Langtang North; Bendel Nanchuat, Langtang South; Sylvester Wallangko, Bokkos; Mathew Kwarpo, Mangu South; and Bako Ankala, Rukuba.

Meanwhile, Isa Madaki Ajiji, representing Jos East State Constituency, was elected deputy speaker, while Joseph Bukar of Shendam Constituency emerged as the majority leader.
