Police arraign 23-year-old over alleged motorcycle theft in Ekiti

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Ekiti State Police Command on Wednesday arraigned 23-year-old Ajayi Sunday before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a motorcycle.The defendant, with no fixed address, was standing trial on a one-count charge of stealing.

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence at about 7:30 p.m on July 13 in Ido-Ekiti.Mr Oriyomi alleged that the defendant stole a red Bajaj Motorcycle valued at N700,000, belonging to one Adeniyi Segun.

He said the offence contravened Section 302(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnessesThe defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.The Counsel for the defendant, Paul Ayantoyinbo, urged the court to grant bail to the defendant, promising that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.Mr Adeosun adjourned the case until August 26 for hearing.
