Two men, Oluwadaisi Samuel, 42, and Innocent Osadare, 39, were arraigned before the Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday over alleged fraud.

The defendants are facing a charge of fraud.

The police prosecutor, Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on April 6 and April 23 at about 11:59 a.m. in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendants obtained the sum of N130,000 and N380,000 from two complainants, Adewale Adesewa and Famuagun Aanuoluwapo, on the pretext of leasing one shop and one self-contained apartment for them.

Mr Adeniyi said the offences contravened sections 516 and 329 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021. He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assemble his witnesses.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.

Counsels to the first defendant, Gboyega Abiola and the second defendant, Femi Olarewaju, urged the court to grant the defendants bail.

They promised that the defendants would not jump bail.

In her ruling, the chief magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, granted bail to the defendants of N100,000 with one surety each in like sum.

She adjourned the case until May 29 for a hearing.
