Police arraign four men over alleged theft of iron rod

The police on Monday arraigned four men in an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ court over alleged theft and receipt of stolen property.

The accused persons are, Odewole Tobi, 24 , Oladimeji Kabiru,26, Awoyomi Ayodeji,27, and Ikenna Ojiako,40.

The accused persons, whose house addresses were not provided, are being tried on charges of stealing and receiving stolen property.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 16, in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

He alleged that Odewole Tobi and Oladimeji Kabiru conspired among themselves, and stole iron rods valued at N4.5 million belonging to the complainant, Umeh Chidozie.

Mr Oriyomi added that Awoyomi Ayodeji and Ikenna Ojiako, received the iron rods, knowing that they were stolen.

According to him, the offences contravened Sections 302(1) (a) and 343 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The prosecutor thereafter asked the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses during trial.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Lawyers to the accused persons urged the court to grant their clients bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted the accused bail in the sum of N600, 000 with one surety each in like sum.

He adjourned the case until September 5, for hearing.
