The police, on Wednesday in Lagos, arraigned a 46-year-old man, Tejhrin Adebare, for stealing N2.1 million under false pretence.
Mr Adebare is facing a three-count charge bordering on stealing and obtaining.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the offences.
The prosecutor, SP Chinalu Uwadwu, told the court that Mr Adebare along with others at large committed the offence in May 2019, at about 2:00 p.m., at Computer village, Ikeja.
Mr Uwadwu said the defendant stole N2.1 million belonging to Elizabeth Nwajei under the guise of purchasing a Toyota Matrix 201, which he knew was false.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Section 411 and 280 and punishable under Section 287 and 313, and Section 314 (1) (3) of Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The Magistrate, H. Akinyemi, granted the defendant N500,000 bail with two sureties in like sum
Ms Akinyemi said one of the sureties must be a relative of the defendant and with verified residential address.
She said the sureties must be gainfully employed and with evidence of two years’ tax payment to Lagos State government.
The magistrate adjourned the case until October 24 for trial.
