The Police in Adamawa have arrested a 62-year-old-man herbalist, Godwin Sanda, for allegedly raping a minor at Zagun village in Numan Local Government Area of the state.

A statement by the spokesman of the command, Suleiman Nguroje, said the 14-year-old victim (name withheld), a mentally retarded child, was brought under the suspect’s custody for a herbal treatment.

“The suspect is a herbalist and used the opportunity to abuse the child,” he said.

Mr Nguroje said the victim’s mother, Maryam Abubakar, reported the case to the divisional police office in Numan.

“The suspect advised the mother to go back home pending when the victim will recover.

“Sanda took advantage of the complainant’s absence for a period of five days and had unlawful carnal knowledge of the victim, which led to her escaping from his premises back to her parent’s house.

“The suspect is presently undergoing investigation by detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) based on the instruction of the Commissioner of Police,” he said.

While reiterating the commitment of the command to fight crimes, Mr Nguroje advised parents to monitor their wards and be wary of questionable characters in the neighbourhoods.
