Mr Babalola made his arrest known on his WhatsApp status at 12:33 p.m.

Mr Babalola, who previously worked with Peoples Gazette and Sahara Reporters, revealed that they were taken to Wuye Police Station, where they are currently being held.

The post read, “I’ve been arrested, Comrades. I’m being held at Wuye Police Station. We are standing our ground and not releasing our devices.”

He added, “I’m being held with Comrade Samuel Victor and five others.”

On Saturday in Abuja, policemen fired live bullets at a vehicle conveying journalists and hunger protesters.

Nationwide protests have erupted against the hardship worsened by some policies of President Bola Tinubu. The protests began on August 1, with organizers stating they would continue until August 10.

The shooting at the Abuja National Stadium where protesters converged ignited panic as journalists and protesters scampered for safety. The police earlier asked the protesters to leave the Federal Capital Territory.
