The police have arrested Labour Party chairman Julius Abure amid allegations of fraud and misappropriation of party funds.

Video of Mr Abure being arrested by some armed police officers emerged on the internet Wednesday afternoon.

It is still unclear why Mr Abure was arrested.

However, Mr Abure’s leadership has been rocked by controversies of party fund misappropriation.

The arrest came after Oluchi Opara, national treasurer of the LP, accused Mr Abure of misappropriation of N3.5 billion party funds at a press conference in Abuja on February 12.

Ms Oparah claimed the funds Mr Abure misappropriated were raised through the sale of forms in the run-up to the 2023 presidential election.

On the penultimate Wednesday, the opposition party suspended Ms Opara for six months for the allegation.
