The police command in Kwara has assured Muslims faithful and the public that its operatives are ready to ensure hitch-free Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

This is contained in a statement by police spokesman Okasanmi Ajayi on Thursday.

He assured that the command would ensure the Eid-el-Fitr celebration, which will mark the successful ending of the Ramadan fast, is celebrated without any hitch.

According to him, the command has implemented a water-tight security strategy across the length and breadth of Kwara.

“Consequently, the eight area commands, officers and men attached to all the Divisional Police Headquarters, heads of tactical units, command’s special forces, including Force Animal Department, mounted troop, dog section and Explosive Ordnance Department (EOD), have all been briefed and reminded of their professional responsibilities of ensuring a smooth and hitch-free celebrations,” said the police statement.

It added, “The forces deployed for the exercise would work in conjunction with the security committee set up specially for the purpose by the state government. Muslim faithfuls coming to the Eid praying ground are advised to obey all traffic control mechanisms emplaced for easy access into and out of the praying ground.”

The police command further mentioned that it “is ready to do all within its powers to make the Eid praying ground the solemn place that it has always been known to be.”

It also warned that “political campaigns, hailing political gladiators, and shouting of party slogans, would not be accepted in the praying arena.”

“Observing prayers at road sides and along the routes to the praying ground would not also be allowed, hence restrictions of vehicular movements by 0800hrs into the Eid praying ground would be strictly enforced,” added the police statement. “The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Police Command, CP Tuesday Assayomo, congratulates Muslim faithfuls on the successful conclusion of this year’s Ramadan fasting.”

While advising residents to enjoy the long holidays with equanimity, Mr Ajayi said the command would be ready to act swiftly to contain any possible breach of public peace.
