Nigerian police have dismissed three officers caught shooting into the air while guarding Dauda Kahutu Rarara, President Muhammadu Buhari’s praise singer.

The three policemen seen in a viral video were dismissed after orderly room trial, Nigerian Police announced in a statement on Thursday.

“The trio, Inspr. Dahiru Shuaibu, Sgt. Abdullahi Badamasi, and Sgt. Isah Danladi were attached to a musician in Kano on escort duties.

“Three officers from the SPU Base 1 Kano have been dismissed for the offences of discreditable conduct to wit misuse of firearms, abuse of power, gross indiscipline, and wastage of live ammunition,” the statement reads in part.

Mr Rarara, a Hausa musician shot into  limelight with “masu gudu su gudu,” a campaign jingle for Mr Buhari in 2015. He has also waxed campaign jingles for other APC governors across northern states.

A video of Mr Rarara being guarded by armed police officers who shot into the air in a fun-fair as his fans cheered him, emerged on Twitter last week, eliciting criticisms from the Nigerian public.
