Nigerian police raided the Wuse Zone 4 Bureau de Change hub in Abuja on Monday, arresting several BDC operators as the naira continued its free fall against the dollar.

The naira traded at N1,600 to the dollar on Monday.

A police van with numerous armed security operatives arrived at the popular Abuja BDC market around 4 p.m. on Monday.

Some BDC operators were arrested and detained in the van, as observed by Peoples Gazette. However, The Gazette could not confirm the reasons for their arrest.

Olumuyiwa Adejobi, spokesperson for the Nigerian police, did not respond to calls seeking comments on the raid.

Previously, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had raided the Abuja BDC market on several occasions in an attempt to address the declining naira.
