The police commissioner in Edo, Funsho Adegboye, has directed heads of formations to beef up security in all locations ahead of the East celebration.

According to a statement by the police spokesman, Chidi Nwabuzor, the commissioner gave the directive on Thursday during a meeting with the command’s management team.

The commissioner assured the public of a hitch-free celebration while felicitating the Christian community on celebrating Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection.

The police chief urged citizens to be security conscious.

He urged the public to report any incident in their localities to the nearest Police stations or other security agencies. 

Similarly, the police command in Imo said it had deployed watertight security across the state to ensure a peaceful Easter celebration.

The command’s spokesman, Henry Okoye, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

Mr Okoye noted that the strategic deployment covered crucial public domains, including places of worship, recreational centres and other crowded areas.

“Accordingly, the commissioner of police, Imo state command, CP Aboki Danjuma, has mandated area commanders, divisional police officers, and tactical team commanders to sustain round-the-clock visibility patrol in synergy with other sister security agencies,” he said.

The police commissioner also directed the formations to embark on intelligence-led raids of criminal hideouts, while traffic officers are to ensure the free flow of traffic.

“In the spirit of Easter, CP Danjuma beckoned on Christian faithful in Imo state to pray for lasting peace and support the Police and other security agencies as they continue to make selfless sacrifices and work tirelessly towards improving the security situation of the state.

“The commissioner of police urged the people of Imo to remain law-abiding and security conscious by reporting any suspicious person seen or clandestine activities observed within their vicinity to the nearest police station,” said the statement.

Mr Okoye said the public could volunteer information via the phone number 08034773600.

However, he warned that using fireworks or burning tyres on the road in the guise of celebration was prohibited.
