There were irate protesters Monday morning in Minna, remonstrating against President Bola Tinubu’s harsh economic measures that have worsened living standards.

Hordes of protesters blocked major roads in Minna, lamenting the high cost of living.

Food prices have spiked in the last six months, but Mr Tinubu urged understanding.

“The financial re-engineering of our country is ongoing. We are determined to deliver Nigeria safely through the tunnel of hope, stability, and economic prosperity,” Mr Tinubu stated in December.

The president added, “Nigeria is in good hands. The team is working, and we will work hard to give you the best economy and the best opportunities that you can imagine.”

Nigeria’s economy deteriorated following the sudden removal of the petrol subsidy on May 29, 2023, forcing a skyrocket of pump price from less than N200 to almost N600.

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar on Sunday accused Mr Tinubu of dashing the hopes of millions of Nigerians with his vile, chaotic economic policies.

“BAT has shown no capacity to deal with the adverse and disastrous impact of the new subsidy regime on the people and businesses and the new foreign exchange policy, which provides for a free-floating exchange rate.

“His initiatives are literally uninformed, arbitrary, and chaotic. BAT’s palliatives are too mean, pitiable, and contemptuous of the poor. He seems genuinely lost, bewildered, and overwhelmed,” said Mr Abubakar.
