Three Lions of England on Tuesday night thrashed their local rival Wales 3-0 in their final group game to progress to the knockout phase as the Group B leader.

England only needed a draw against Wales to confirm their spot in the World Cup round of 16, but an impressive victory sent them through as group leaders.

It was a relatively quiet first half at the Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan, with Marcus Rashford missing the only real opportunity to put England ahead when he missed a one-on-one chance with Wales goalkeeper Danny Ward.

But the Three Lions came back roaring in the second half of the encounter, putting three goals past the Wales’ goalkeeper to claim the maximum three points.

Rashford, who would hit a brace, opened the scoring for England barely five minutes into the second half with a stunning free-kick before Phil Foden doubled the lead from Harry Kane’s assist two minutes later.

The Manchester United striker scored his second goal of the night in the 68th minute to secure the victory for the Three Lions and send England to the round of 16.

England will now face African champions Senegal, who defeated Ecuador 2-1 earlier to book their spot in the knockout phase for a place in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, USA finished second in Group B behind England after pipping Iran by a lone goal at the Al-Thumama Stadium.

Chelsea star Christian Pulišić scored the only goal in the first half of the game to send the Americans into the round of 16.

They will face 2010 finalists and Group A winners Netherlands for a place in the quarterfinals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
