The Ramadan crescent moon has been sighted in some parts of Nigeria, according to the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), signalling the annual fasting for Muslim faithful worldwide.

The 2022 Ramadan will begin on April 2. The national moonsighting committee in Nigeria confirmed sighting the crescent, ushering in the holy month of Ramadan, where Islamic faithful are expected to abstain from eating, drinking and or taking part in any unholy acts.

“Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah, Alhamdu lillah, the crescent of Ramadan 1443H has been sighted at some locations in Nigeria,” tweeted the official account of the moon sighting committee in Nigeria.

Sultan of Sokoto and NSCIA President-General Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar affirmed sighting the crescent in a broadcast on Friday evening.
