Nigerian Afrobeats stars such as Divine Ikubor (Rema), Temilade Openiyi (Tems), Damini Ogulu (Burna Boy), Ayodeji Balogun (Wizkid) and Oyinkansola Aderibigbe (Ayra Starr) have dominated the 2023 year-end U.S. Billboard Afrobeats chart.

The year-end 2023 Billboard charts unveiled on its official website on Tuesday, unequivocally underscored the profound influence of musical excellence on the global scene.

Burna Boy, after securing second place in the 2022 year-end rankings, rebounds triumphantly, claiming the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s 2023 year-end U.S. Afrobeats Artists chart. Claiming the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s 2023 Afrobeats Artists list, Burna Boy’s dominance is evident through 26 entries on the weekly U.S. Afrobeat Songs chart. Notably, other artists such as Wizkid, Tems, and Libianca secured chart positions without releasing an album or EP in 2023.

Rema, who is one of Nigeria’s most decorated artistes of the year, secured the second position on the 2023 year-end U.S. Afrobeats Artistes list, propelled by the chart-topping collaboration “Calm Down” with Selena Gomez. Rema also topped the Top Afrobeats songs chart released by Billboard with his hit song “Calm Down.”

Rema’s “Calm Down” remix featuring Selena Gomez skyrocketed to No. 1 on the U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart after its September 2022 release. The track held the top spot for an impressive 58 weeks, making significant strides for Afrobeats on various Billboard charts.

Tems’ “Free Mind” secures the 3rd spot on the 2023 U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart. Additionally, it clinches the No. 1 positions on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay and Adult R&B Airplay lists.

Wizkid’s “Essence,” featuring Tems and Justin Bieber, claims the 4th spot, showcasing its enduring popularity among U.S. audiences. He also solidifies his presence in the top five artistes list, driven by tracks from his ‘More Love, Less Ego,’ album dominating the 2022 chart. Notably, “2 Sugar” featuring Ayra Starr and “Mood” featuring Buju each spent 47 and 42 weeks, respectively, on the weekly songs chart. Ayra Starr, CKay, Asake, Davido, and Oxlade are among the additional artistes who made the top 10 on the list.
